I am bored in my job. I really, truly am. However, I am not motivated enough yet to actually get a new one. Besides, the jobs I would really like are not particularly within my range of skills and/or experience; Since childhood I’ve harboured a desire to be a Blue Peter presenter, or a cook onboard a space station, an Outlaw in Sherwood Forest, or the Doctor’s Companion (Seriously. I even got an Ace jacket for Christmas one year – remember her? Rose and Martha eat your hearts out!)
Imaginary jobs are so much more worthwhile. So much more fun. So much more exciting. So much less good at paying the bills, indeed, but still.
In the spirit of this, today’s post shall be entirely dedicated to the Job I Do Not Have But Probably Should.
I think, actually, that besides the above-mentioned and the role of Slytherin Head Girl, which is pretty much already a full-time job, I would make a really excellent Groupie.
No, really. I think I have just the right amount of attitude to get noticed, enough admiration to ensure complete hero-worship. I’m just shallow enough to believe that my chosen idols are quite simply the best things in the whole world and that in being “with the band” I am somehow cooler by proxy. I was born to wear the most outrageous outfits, born to wear a VIP pass. I make an excellent cup of coffee (black, no sugar) and I always have a spare rizla or lighter. I have mastered the art of posing and looking mean and moody. I own enough makeup to last a lifetime. I look fabulous in my underwear. I’m a little bit wild and a lot loud, and spontaneous enough to start a party on a tour bus or go skinny dipping in the sea. I got this job by smiling hard and dancing harder.
And, in my imagination, I am the Head Groupie for an electro rock and roll band with Noel Fielding, Russell Brand, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Brian Molko! Life’s a whirlwind of feather boas, eyeliner, lipgloss, class A’s, trashy kisses, champagne cocktails and after show parties! Paparazzi light up our clandestine adventures!
Oh yes.
What else would I be well suited to?
